EVSTART Buys Its Way to a Full-Service Charging Shop

EVSTART acquires Ontario contractor Electrocan, bringing installation in house.

EVSTART just stopped outsourcing the hard part. The Wyse Meter Solutions subsidiary has acquired Electrocan Power Services, a Southern Ontario electrical contractor built around EV charging work, bringing installation, engineering, and maintenance under one roof.

That matters for property owners and public sector partners who used to juggle separate vendors for hardware and execution. Electrocan was co-founded in 2022 by Kenny Erlich and Zachary Himmel, who now lead EVSTART as president and vice president of operations. Erlich says the merged teams can move faster and deliver more consistently as demand climbs across residential and commercial buildings.

The deal follows Wyse's earlier move to bring EVSTART and its Rate Switch advisory arm fully in house. Chief Financial Officer Richard Belfer frames it as part of a broader shift toward scalable, practical delivery rather than one-off project support, timed to a federal automotive strategy still pushing capital toward charging infrastructure nationwide.

Fleet and property operators watching the space should take note. Charging providers are increasingly absorbing installation and engineering capacity instead of subcontracting it, and as procurement cycles reward vendors who can manage a project end to end, that consolidation narrows the field able to bid on the largest depot and residential contracts.
